The Tamarac City Commission will hold their second virtual meeting on Wednesday, May 13, where they’ll be voting on several items.
The meeting will cover a variety of topics including proclamations declaring Haitian Heritage Month, Mental Health Month, and National Hospital Week, as well as honoring 100-year-old veteran, Arthur Schorr.
There will also be a COVID-19 status update of city operations and investment.
Several ordinances and resolutions are on the agenda, including a resolution to denounce white supremacy. First discussed at the virtual meeting in April, Commissioner Mike Gelin brought the item forward in response to the increase in hate crimes since the president took office in 2016. After some debate about how much responsibility the president bore, the commission was unanimous in moving forward with it.
An ordinance to increase filing fees to run for city commission is also on the agenda, where it passed unanimously on the first reading.
