In celebration of Hospital Week and those on the frontlines of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Tamarac City Commissioner Mike Gelin hosted an appreciation lunch for healthcare workers at University Hospital.

Commission Gelin read and presented University Hospital and Medical Center CEO Ben Harris with a proclamation declaring it to be Hospital Week in Tamarac.

Gelin was inspired to host the lunch to show appreciation to those working to save lives during the pandemic.

“As the son of a registered nurse, I grew up knowing that healthcare workers are heroes,” said Gelin.

Approximately 250 meals were prepared and served to the daytime workers at University Hospital by Chef Juliette of Lickie Stickie Barbecue, a fixture at the Tamarac Farmer’s Market.

The event was attended by Broward County Mayor Dale Holness, Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine, Florida State Reps. Dan Daley and Anike Omphrey, Vice Mayor Marlon Bolton, and Commissioner Julie Fishman.
