Countywide Curfew Issued Due to Ongoing Civil Unrest

By Jill Fox

Following in the footsteps on Miami-Dade, Broward County has executed an Emergency Order imposing a county-wide curfew effective at 9:00 p.m. Sunday until 6:00 a.m. for the next seven days unless canceled earlier.

According to the order, a state of local emergency was declared relating to the ongoing civil unrest in Broward County, which threatens the health, safety, and welfare of the people.

Mayor Hunschofsky said the city received notice of the curfew at 8:41 p.m. and shared it as soon as it was received.

During the curfew, only emergency responders and utility workers are permitted to use streets and sidewalks.

As noted in the order, people are permitted to travel directly to and from their homes to their place of employment, as well as walk their dogs or other pets within 250 feet of their residences.

Bertha Henry, Country Administrator of Broward County, issued the declaration of emergency on Sunday, May 31, at 8:11 p.m.
