A new assistance program has been launched in Tamarac to help families financially burdened by the Covid-19 pandemic, who need to make emergency repairs to their homes.

For residents who qualify for the program, funds would be awarded as a grant.

The funds would be used to enable emergency repairs to major systems, such as the roof or any other components of a home that an inspector deems necessary.

The guidelines to qualify are strict—projects will only be undertaken if the scope of work can be completed within the program parameters and the funding agency deadline, and only if circumstances pose a threat to life and safety.

The projects will be reviewed and awarded on a case-by-case basis.

Applications open on Tuesday, October 13, and can be found on the city’s housing website.

The completed applications must be printed out and signed, accompanied by backup documents, and sealed in an envelope labeled on the front as “City of Tamarac 2020 Emergency Assistance Program.”

They must then be dropped off at City Hall at 7525 NW 88 Avenue, Mondays to Fridays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-ready, first-served basis until the program funds are gone.
