Family to Hold Fundraiser in Tamarac For Paralyzed First Responder

Peter Bazos isn’t giving up.

The 58-year-old first responder from Coral Springs nearly died of COVID-19 and a massive stroke one year ago, then became partially paralyzed. But he hopes to walk again someday with the help of his community.

Bazos’ family is holding a casino fundraiser for their hero on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Colony West Golf Club, 6850 NW 88th Ave. in Tamarac, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Attendees’ $50 ticket donation includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert, a casino chip voucher, and a raffle ticket. Games will include roulette, blackjack, poker, craps, and a raffle for gift baskets.

The event will include a cash bar.

Bazos, who was a correctional probation senior officer for the state Department Of Corrections, attended Coral Springs High School and played football at Florida State University. He also formerly worked for the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

He led an ultra-healthy lifestyle before COVID-19 struck him down, his family said.

“One year later, my dad is still pushing to be able to walk again one day,” Susanne Bazos said in an email.

“It’s incredible that he is still alive today.”
