A home health aide is accused of stealing more than $20,000 in jewelry from a Tamarac woman and pawning the valuables.
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Christine Rolle, 60, of Sunrise, was arrested July 21 and faces charges of grand theft, exploitation of a senior, dealing in stolen property, and providing false verification of ownership to a pawnbroker.
According to the arrest affidavit, the investigation began after the victim’s daughter reported that several pieces of her mother’s jewelry had gone missing. The missing items included multiple gold and diamond necklaces, bracelets, rings, and other jewelry with a combined value exceeding $20,000.
Investigators said Rolle was one of the few people with access to the victim’s home while working as her home healthcare aide, assisting with bathing and dressing. The victim’s daughter told deputies she became suspicious after discovering the jewelry missing and questioning Rolle, who repeatedly denied taking any of it.
The case remained open for months until detectives conducted a more extensive search of pawn shop databases. According to the report, investigators found multiple pawn transactions under Rolle’s name that matched descriptions of the stolen jewelry.
Among the transactions were a 14-karat gold-and-diamond bracelet and a 14-karat gold chain with a V-shaped diamond charm. Detectives later obtained pawn records and statements from a pawn shop owner who told investigators he was familiar with Rolle because she had done business there many times over the years.Â
When interviewed after her arrest, investigators said Rolle initially denied taking the jewelry. However, after being shown photographs of several pieces, she admitted placing some jewelry in the garbage with other items because she believed the victim no longer needed it.
According to the affidavit, Rolle eventually acknowledged retrieving the jewelry from the trash, taking it to a pawn shop, receiving money for it, and later defaulting on the loan, causing her to lose the jewelry.Â
Rolle was arrested and transported to the Broward Main Jail.
