A man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening two home healthcare workers with a knife while they were caring for his mother.
On July 18, the Lauderhill Police Department responded to a residence near the 3100 block of Northwest 14th Street in response to 911 calls indicating two home health care workers had been threatened at knifepoint by a resident.
According to reports from the victims, the confrontation occurred while they were attending to the mother of a man identified as Leeadis Boyd, 65, of Fort Lauderdale.
The victims recounted to LPD that in adherence to company policy, they had closed and locked the bedroom door to ensure the patient’s privacy during a changing procedure. Boyd allegedly became infuriated by the closed door and began banging, demanding entry.
Arrest records show that one of the victims reported Boyd banged on the door multiple times, causing damage and threatening, “I’ll kill you, bitch,” before subsequently forcing the door open, entering the room with a large kitchen knife in hand.
The victim recorded the incident on her cellphone and later provided the footage to the police.
The second victim, also present in the room, corroborated the first victim’s account, although she expressed difficulty in fully understanding Boyd’s threats due to her primary language being Spanish. She did, however, confirm Boyd aggressively brandished the knife, coming within ten feet of the workers.
Upon being taken into custody by police, Boyd’s account of the incident differed significantly. He admitted to disliking the closed door and used the kitchen knife to unlock it but denied making threats or intending to harm the workers.
Boyd claimed he placed the knife in the kitchen sink after the incident.
Police reviewed the cellphone footage provided by the victim, which depicted Boyd standing close to the workers with the knife in hand, making aggressive remarks.
The knife, later found in the kitchen sink, matched the one in the video.
Boyd was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $3,500 bond.
