J.P. Taravella Basketball Teams Highlight Week of Success With 1st Win

J.P. Taravella completed another busy week, highlighted by the start of basketball. 

The boys basketball team picked up their first win on Monday against Miramar High School with a 50-41 victory. Andres Demoya led the way with 13 points, Cam Fearon scored 11, and Jam Ganley scored 10.

JPT beat Hallandale High School 69-61, with four players scoring double figures. Fearon scored 18, while James Galley had 16. Andres Demoya scored 13 points, with James Arriaga scoring 12 and 10 rebounds. 

The Trojans then closed the week with a win against Piper High School 51-48, with Demoya, Fearon, and Jeffrey Herrera in double figures.

“Best start Taravella basketball has had in almost 20 years, so extremely proud of them for that, Head Coach Eric Kapel said. “However, we lost one of our top seniors to a torn meniscus, so it’s bittersweet.”

JPT is coming off a season where they went 18-8. They now have Jeffrey Smith, Sebastian Merraro, Juvens Athlon, Terry Ettiene, Nicolas Novoa, Jayden Bryan, Boaz Wynter, and Jeffrey Herrera on their team this year. 

Next, the Trojans will play a rivalry game against Coral Springs High School on December 6 at 7:30 p.m. These two teams last met in 2021, with the Colts winning 75-60.

The girls basketball team beat Miramar 51-8 in their first game. They followed that up with a one-point victory against Hallandale High School before losing to Piper High School 67-16. JPT had three wins last season against Coral Glades, Plantation, and Stranahan High School.

Their team consists of Jaylyne Castro, Ashanti Monroe, Chloe Ledan, Sarah Zouaghi, Cadyn Johnson, Emie Fanord, Danielle Duncanson, Willyana Jacques, Jazmyn Davis, Brianna Whittaker, Mitsuika Leonidas and Austin Williams. They will play Pompano Beach High School in their next game against Pompano Beach High School on December 8 at 6 p.m. 

The girls soccer team is 1-2 this year following an 8-0 loss against Cypress Bay High School and will play Coral Glades in their next game on Monday, December 4, at 5 p.m. The boys soccer team will also play Coral Glades after having no games this week. Kickoff for that game is set for 6:30. 

The wrestling team also began their season on Friday and will have several big-time matchups before the start of the postseason.
