The J.P. Taravella boys’ cross country team took first place in their meet on Tuesday at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek.
They competed against Cardinal Gibbons, Coral Springs Charter, Coral Glades, and Pompano Beach High School.
Elijah Vessells finished first individually with 18:09.3, while Scardy Fils came in second. Akeem Beckford and Dominic Martinez each placed in the top five with times under 19 minutes, while Craig Dennis came in ninth at 19:29.0. Ali Mustafa was next to finish in 11th place, followed by Donald Lee, Saul Flores, Nakhai Reid, Kemoy Williams, Kurt Austin, and Elijah Porter-Hall.
The girls’ team came in third place, led by Rachel Arne, who came in fifth. Olivia Noel placed just outside the top ten and ran along with Giavanna Lionelli, Caileen Canales, and Meital Pavolotzky.
JPT will work on improving their times before the start of the postseason in November.
