After a dominant performance with the Original 2024 Florida Pokers, Anthony Quigley is committed to playing college baseball at the University of South Florida.
Originally choosing the University of Alabama of Birmingham, Quigley reopened his recruitment before choosing USF.
“I decommited from my previous school because I’ve made a great relationship with Coach Kunkle,” Quigley said. “I’ve been talking to him since the beginning of my recruiting process, and the relationship we have created is great. I am just thankful that I am able to get this opportunity, and I want to thank the USF coaching staff for giving me a shot.”
Quigley started playing baseball in Margate with the South Florida Inferno when he was seven. He then played with the 13U Cannon then transferred to J.P. Taravella as a sophomore.
During his two years on varsity, Quigley hit .304 as a sophomore and went 4-2 on the mound with 32 strikeouts in 35 innings. This past season, he recorded a save in one of his four appearances while driving in four runs while JPT won the HSBN First Pitch Elite Tournament and reached the Regional Semifinals for the second straight season.
“When I first saw Anthony, it was easy to see all the upside and potential, Head Coach Joe Giummule said. “He passed the eye test. He is starting to figure it out and put it all together. USF is a great fit for Anthony, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he got drafted this year and never set foot on campus.
This summer, Quigley has been on fire, helping the Pokers to a record of 22-1-1. In the last tournament, he hit two home runs and also had a win on the mound.
Quigley will have one more year left of high school baseball before joining a team that went 33-26 a season ago. He will also join his Florida Pokers teammate Niko Benestad with the Bulls.
“Niko and I have created a great friendship throughout the years of playing baseball together, Quigley added. “Going to college with one of my best friends is exciting. Niko is anything you want in a player and a person as well. So knowing that I’ll be going to college with him was great, and I have someone I’ve grown up with.”
