J.P. Taravella Girls Volleyball Team. {JPT Athletics}

J.P. Taravella girls volleyball team is 3-1 to start the season for the first time since 2012 under first-year Head Coach Joesph Jean-Baptise.
The Trojans defeated Miramar High School in four sets during their first match on August 29, defeating Blanche Ely and then Dillard on Monday, with their only loss coming against Pompano Beach High School.
“We had a shaky start when it came to the season because we didn’t have enough time to prepare,” Jean-Baptise said. “But with the little time we had to prepare, we made the best of it. We are trying to show it by the results we give during the season.”
Their teams consist of Imani John, Phallyn Lanier, U’Myri Bain, Lauren Beaty, Brooke Bunting, Reshanaye Elliot, Mitsuika Leonidas, Taylor Maffett, Kaira Samuel, Makayla Smith, Aniza Zahid, Victoria Salcedo and Chelsea Baxter- Diaz.
Their coach is a 2021 Atlantic Technical High School graduate who played volleyball at Coconut Creek High School. While it is his first time coaching, Jean-Baptise has played since he was in sixth grade.
JPT previously won only one match in 2022 against Plantation High School. Those teams were supposed to meet on Wednesday, but the game was canceled. The Trojans will play Deerfield Beach High School in their next match on Monday, September 18, at 6 p.m.
The Bucks are 3-4 this year with wins over Nova, South Broward, and Coral Springs High School while also winning their only match against the Trojans in 2022.
