Principal: Student Vehicles Parked in Tamarac Shopping Plaza will be Towed

By: Jen Russon

The management company at Tamarac Town Square sent a message to Principal Marietta DeArmas, informing school administrators that vehicles belonging to students and staff will be towed this week.

The shopping plaza, located at 8245 NW 88th Avenue, is the site of a Publix grocery store and a short walk to the high school campus.

A spokesperson for the leasing company said parking spaces had been usurped by students before.

“We noticed students parking there was becoming an issue again, and since we have a responsibility to our tenants in Tamarac Town Square to make customer parking readily available, we reached out to the Principal at Taravella,” said David Ericson, communications manager.

Ericson added only one or two cars, to his knowledge, had been towed since Regency Center’s decision to prohibit student parking this fall.

De Armas let students know plenty of parking is available at J.P. Taravella High School in a courtesy email.

“Please make sure that any student that is parking in the shopping plaza is aware,” she wrote.

De Armas reminded Taravella families that passes for the student parking lot are still available in the school’s main office for purchase.

Student car decal applications and the $60 fee to receive one can only be completed online.
