J.P. Taravella High School has officially announced the addition of Ed Therrimann as the football team’s new coach.
He takes over for Clyde Parry, who coached the Trojans for one year. Therrimann becomes the Trojans’ fourth coach in the last four years after previously working as an assistant last season. JPT is coming off a winless season and has won only three games since 2019.
The Trojans also had a busy week heading into spring break, which was highlighted by their baseball team winning three games. They knocked off Providence Day High School 12-1 in their first game before a tight 4-3 win over Monarch High School. Their final win victory came against Coral Glades in a 10-0 win.
JPT will prepare to compete in a tournament during spring break. It will play ABR Academy Homestead, Archbishop McCarthy, and St. John Paul II Academy.
The softball team is 5-5 this year, but it had a tough week, losing 6-4 to South Broward and 18-2 to Coral Glades. They will take on Everglades High School in their next game on April 2 at 6:30 p.m.
The boys’ volleyball team heads into spring break with wins against Coral Springs Charter and Coral Springs High School. They are scheduled to play six more games, with their next one against Cooper City High School on April 3 at 4:30 p.m.
The boys lacrosse team has their only win against Coral Spring High School on March 14. This year, they are 1-8 and had losses against Coral Glades, West Boca Raton, and Spanish River Community High School. However, they will play Coral Springs High School again on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. in their final game of the regular season.
Track and field were also in action in the BCAA qualifier, which was highlighted by several second-place finishes from the boys’ teams. Scardy Fils, Ali Mustafa, Joshua Reneau, and Benjamin Joseph came in second, and the 4 x 800 relay with Fils, Elijah Vessells, Akeem Beckford, and Craig Dennis came in second. Benjamin Joseph placed third in two meets, along with Abel Kidd, Fils, and Joseph.
The girls’ team also had second-place finishes from Patricia Costa and U’Myri Bain, and the 4 x 100 relay team with Timya Johnson, Jada Thelwell, Melany Alvarez, and Patricia Costa. The other two relay teams, Samira Belizaire, Olivia Noel, Jada Thelwell, and Patricia Costa in the 4 x 400 and Olivia Noel, Raquel Arne, Samira Belizaire, and Caileen Canales in the 4 x 800, came in third.
