Tamarac State of the City address by Mayor Michelle Gomez. {City of Tamarac}
Dear Neighbors,
Welcome to August! I hope you’re enjoying these hot summer days and staying hydrated, even if you are spending most of your time in the air conditioning!
Keep your little ones active, engaged, and having fun with Tots in Motion! Beginning Saturday, August 1st, children ages 4-6 can enjoy hands-on activities including cooking, sports, arts & crafts, and nature exploration every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Tamarac Park (7501 N. University Dr.). There is a registration fee. For more information, please call 954-597-3674.
Our Back-to-School Resource Fair will be on Saturday, August 8th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Center (8601 W Commercial Blvd). This free event will feature giveaways, resources and more! The first 200 students will receive a free backpack filled with school essentials and educational materials, so make sure to get there early!
Guess what … we did it again! A FOUR-peat! On August 12th, it will be my honor to accept the Florida League of Mayors (FLM) Mayors Municipal Innovation Award in the Technology/Innovation Category for the City’s AI-Powered Community Calendar and Civic Engagement Platform. Since the inception of the FLM Awards Program, the City of Tamarac is the only city to be an award recipient 4 years in a row! We received recognition in 2023 for the Tamarac Pet Pantry; 2024 for See, Fix, Click; 2025 for Tamarac’s Omni-Channel Call Center Solution, and now this! Kudos to Team Tamarac! I remain so very proud to be your Mayor!
It will be a pleasure to host A Decade of Dignity Packing Extravaganza from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Center (8601 W Commercial Blvd) on Saturday, August 15th. Join us as volunteers pack thousands of hygiene and period care kits for our community. These kits will be assembled and distributed to public schools, community courts, and over 50 local libraries! To help us pack, please register online at https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/a-decade-of-dignity-packing-extravaganza and spread the word with your friends and family!
I’m feeling lucky 7 as I will celebrate my 7th “birthday” being breast cancer free on August 30th! I will remain forever grateful for your love, support, prayers, and laughter in helping me get through my battle! Thank you to all the caregivers and friends who support people battling this awful disease (actually, any disease!), and to everyone who has made my comedy fundraiser a wonderful success over the years! Mark your calendar for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, October 10th as I host the 2026 Ha-Ha’s for the Tata’s presented by PuroClean at The View at Colony West. The proceeds will be distributed to Tamarac Employees Benevolent Fund, Gilda’s Club, and the American Cancer Society. So please save the date and email me at MayorGomezEvents@Tamarac.org to receive more information about tickets as soon as it is available, and sponsorship opportunities.

👟 Turn Old Sneakers Into Hope for Homeless Pets! 🐾
Did you know your old sneakers can help save homeless dogs and cats? Good Karma Pet Rescue proudly partners with GotSneakers, a sneaker recycling program that transforms gently used and worn athletic shoes into funding that supports their rescue efforts.
Every pair collected helps:
🐶 Support rescued dogs and cats
♻️ Keep sneakers out of landfills
❤️ Raise funds
📍 Check my social media for when we have our GotSneakers collection boxes and help us fill them! Learn more about the program: 🔗 https://www.goodkarmapetrescue.org/gotsneakers
Together, we can turn something as simple as an old pair of sneakers into a second chance for an animal in need.
