Kings Point Resident Calls For Armed Security in the Community

By Joe Morguess

Due to the many shootings around the country, a resident in Kings Point in Tamarac is calling for armed security stationed at selected locations including the main clubhouse and theater premises.

Martin Katz, a resident of Granville in Kings Point, is proposing an increased measure for security during their upcoming board meeting in July.

At several presentations throughout June, Katz spoke out about the need for better protection for the residents, reminding them that this month marked the anniversary of the mass killings at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. He also cited the anti-Semitic mass shooting at The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh that killed 11, the anti-Semitic incidents at California synagogues, as well as the mass shooting of 58 people during a Las Vegas concert in 2017.

Katz reminded residents of the mass shooting of 17 students and teachers at nearby Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland; many students that attend the school are grandchildren of Kings Point residents. On June 11, a resident was murdered in the Southhampton condo, and the killer is still at-large.

Kings Point residents are “sitting ducks” with no onsite armed security throughout the facilities where residents gather in-mass said, Katz. These facilities include the clubhouse with active sports areas, meeting rooms, cabaret with frequent parties, dinners and dances, indoor/outdoor pools and the 1,000 seat Palace Theater.

Kings Point is made up of 13 separate communities with a population of over 8,000 residents.

The monthly meeting of the KPIT Board of Directors will be held at the Palace Theater on Thursday, July 11, at 9:45 a.m. and Katz is encouraging residents to attend and demand security.
