A Lauderhill man has been arrested on child abuse charges after authorities say he physically abused his daughter and adopted daughter for taking candy from his room.
According to records, Jimmy Jacob, 42, was taken into custody on June 7 after Lauderhill Police obtained an arrest warrant supported by extensive interviews, medical examinations, and photographic evidence documenting injuries consistent with abuse.
According to the arrest affidavit, police were first called to the victim’s mother’s home on April 14 after she reported that Jacob had physically assaulted their daughter at his residence the day prior. The victim told police that Jacob became mad after discovering that she and her adopted sister had taken candy from his bedroom.
The victim told police that in response to the missing candy, Jacob allegedly struck her multiple times with a belt on her thighs, causing visible bruising and a minor injury to her finger. She also said that her sister had been choked and beaten during the same incident.
Photographs of the injuries were taken by both police and the victim’s mother over the following days, documenting severe bruising, welts, and swelling to the victim’s legs, buttocks, and finger.
Authorities initiated a joint investigation with the Department of Children and Families and the Nancy J. Cotterman Center, which conducted multiple interviews and medical evaluations.
Records show that medical experts noted the bruises displayed a distinct “loop” pattern consistent with being struck by a belt. The fact that some of the bruises were still visible three weeks after the incident raised concerns of excessive force, according to the medical evaluation report.
The investigation also revealed prior incidents of alleged physical discipline. The victim told authorities that she once witnessed her older sister doing the wall sits as punishment when her father struck her with a belt, and the metal part of the belt hit her face, leaving a scar near her eye.
The victim also reported that she has a scar on her inner thigh and a bump on her forehead caused by her father flicking her in the head. She said her sister has multiple marks on her face, neck, legs, and arms as a result of similar discipline.
The victim stated that while she often experienced less severe punishment, she feared for her safety and that of her sisters.
In an interview with investigators, Jacob denied the allegations, claiming the bruises may have resulted from his daughter playing and falling from his truck.
Jacob was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
