Lucky Scoops Ice Cream has just opened in Tamarac.
Customers can choose from 32 flavors and a variety of treats at the new store located at 8197 Northwest University Drive, Suite 4.
Shaira Polynice, who owns Lucky Scoops with her husband Frederic, said it has taken work to open the store, but the ice cream business is fun.
“My husband had wanted to open a restaurant, and we saw a need for an ice cream store in Tamarac,” said Polynice.
A former elementary school teacher for five years at nearby Renaissance Charter School at University, Polynice sees many of her former students who stop in for an ice cream dish or cone. “This is my first restaurant, and people are happy when they are eating ice cream,” she said.
Some of the favorite specialty items include waffle cone nachos, fruity pebble bowls, and stackers, a mixture of sauces and ice cream. The best-selling flavors include cookies and cream, rum raisin, and caramel cheesecake.
Tamarac offered a good opportunity for an ice cream store. “We are close to schools, and this is near our home. I enjoy being here,” she said.
On Wednesday, June 18, the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce will welcome Lucky Scoops. The party will begin at 5 p.m., and the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m.
Business hours are Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
