After leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase spanning multiple cities, a man was arrested and charged with grand theft, resulting in five additional suspects hiding in an occupied residence in Tamarac.
On March 29, a group of detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Burglary Team was involved in a high-speed chase after a stolen 2022 white Mercedes GLE 350, which had been reported stolen from the city of Tequesta the day prior, was located traveling with multiple people inside.
According to the report, the chase began when the detectives first learned of the stolen vehicle traveling northbound in the 300 block of Northwest 31st Avenue in Lauderhill. Their pursuit of the car would soon take them across multiple cities, ending in Tamarac.
The report shows the team maintained covert surveillance of the stolen vehicle as it traveled eastbound on Sunrise Boulevard and northbound on I-95. The BSO Aviation unit was requested and responded to take over surveillance of the suspect, later identified as Kenfort Louis, 19, of Margate.
According to the arrest report, deputies believe the suspects quickly became aware of law enforcement’s presence and, as a result, changed their driving patterns to evade them.
Continued surveillance indicated the stolen vehicle, driven by Louis, then traveled northbound on I-95 to Pompano Beach, where he bailed from the stolen vehicle in the 2700 block of Northwest 6th Court.
The report states that another suspect occupied the driver’s seat after a quick stop, and the vehicle kept going. Louis was taken into custody without incident.
The aviation unit continued to maintain a constant visual of the stolen vehicle as it continued to travel around the city of Pompano Beach in an attempt to escape from law enforcement.
The stolen vehicle then entered the Florida Turnpike and began to travel southbound before exiting Commercial Boulevard and westbound into Tamarac.
The report states that the suspect’s vehicle continued to drive recklessly through a residential neighborhood throughout the dangerous chase.
The stolen vehicle then traveled westbound on Northwest 64th Street and made a turn to travel southbound through the backyard of several residences. Five suspects then bailed from the car and fled southbound on foot, which was observed by the aviation unit.
When law enforcement made contact with the vehicle, it was found to be empty, and the car’s key fob was not present.
The aviation unit observed four suspects walk to the backdoor of 5905 Northwest 74th Avenue residence and enter the residence.
The arrest report states that detectives surrounded the residence and gave numerous notifications of the PA system for the occupants to exit. A black male, later identified as the homeowner’s son, left the residence and confirmed that four suspects ran into the home through the backdoor but claimed not to know them.
After approximately three hours, the four remaining suspects exited the residence and surrendered to law enforcement. The four suspects — all juveniles — were later identified as Zacharias Allen, Nichale Mitchell, Luis Vasquez, and Joseph Watson.
The fifth suspect, Caleb Hector, was later located hiding in the bushes behind 6105 Northwest 74th Avenue.
Louis was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
