A man faces premeditated murder charges after calling 911 to confess to shooting a woman outside the Blue Martini Lounge.
On December 14, the Lauderhill Police Department received a call from a residence located near the 1100 block of Northwest 18th Avenue from a man, later identified as Orville Brown, 59, of Fort Lauderdale, claiming he was responsible for a shooting earlier in the night.
While responding to Brown’s home, officers also responded to the scene of a reported shooting in which a victim had suffered a gunshot wound to her hand. The report indicated the injured victim had fled the location where she was shot and had sought safety near the 1400 block of Northwest 31st Avenue.
According to the report, the victim was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to her left ring finger and was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale for immediate medical attention.
At the time of her assistance, the connection had not yet been made to Brown’s confession.
Upon arriving at the hospital where the victim was being treated, she told officers while concluding her work shift at the restaurant Lallos, she was approached by Brown, whom she had known for about three months.
Despite Brown’s persistent pursuit of a romantic relationship, the victim said she had never dated him due to Brown’s aggressive demeanor.
The situation escalated when Brown invited the victim to the Blue Martini Lounge in Fort Lauderdale, to which she agreed in an attempt to avoid confrontation.
After leaving the lounge and arriving at Peoples Choice restaurant in Lauderhill, the victim told officers Brown displayed aggressive behavior toward staff, prompting the victim to express her desire to leave.
As the victim attempted to obtain her purse from his car, Brown physically assaulted her before producing a gun and firing four or five shots at her as she ran away, one bullet wounding her finger as she raised her hand to protect her face.
The victim sustained permanent disfigurement to her left ring finger and additional injuries to her lips.
According to the report, video surveillance footage retrieved from the scene corroborated the victim’s statement, showing the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
Upon arrival at Brown’s home, officers, who had since made the connection after interviewing the victim, took him into custody.
During his arrest, Brown informed officers where within his residence the firearm used in the shooting was located, and they retrieved it as evidence.
Brown was arrested at his home and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
