A Tamarac man was arrested and charged with domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening a woman with a firearm because he was frustrated his immigration approval was taking too long.
On April 5, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence near the 7500 block of North Pine Island Road, where they met with an alleged victim, who reported a man, later identified as Pedro Eduardo Garcia Gutierrez, 64, of Tamarac, had battered her and threatened her with a firearm.
According to the arrest report, the victim told deputies Garcia had been stressed due to his current immigration status and had become impatient and frustrated with the long wait time.
The victim stated that her son-in-law had received his residency that day and was excited to notify Garcia. However, after being notified, Garcia became irate and pushed the victim twice, causing her to lose balance and fall on a chair.
The victim told deputies Garcia then struck her between the breasts with an open hand using his fingertips. The victim reported that Garcia practices martial arts.
The arrest report says the victim told deputies the situation escalated when Garcia pointed a black firearm at the victim and held a stun gun in his other hand.
The victim – who told deputies she was in fear for her life – said Garcia threatened her, saying, “If you try to f-ck me over, I’ll f-ck you over.”
The victim told deputies she was ultimately able to calm Garcia down, and both parties entered her vehicle.
The report also states the victim told deputies Garcia advised the victim that he wished he had an “atomic bomb” to kill everyone. They both returned to their residence, where the victim’s daughter convinced her to report the altercation to law enforcement.
According to the report, the victim did not have any visible injuries, and there were no marks in between her breasts where she was struck.
Deputies detained Garcia while a search was conducted for the firearm used in the alleged crime, which the victim advised was possibly under the bed in the master bedroom.
A black stun gun was located between the bed and the nightstand. However, after leaving the residence, the victim called back, stating that she had entered the residence and retrieved the firearm.
Deputies returned and retrieved the firearm, which later was determined to be a BB gun.
Garcia was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
