In their first commission meeting to include newly elected Commissioner Elvin Villalobos, Tamarac’s elected leaders have important business items before them.
An emergency order will be authorized during the attorney’s report, allowing virtual meetings to be continued. This is necessary after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis let a State Oder to expire them.
On the consent agenda, there are a dozen items that include a water treatment plant filter replacement for $486,885, a citywide security systems upgrade for up to $1,068,395.11, and a decorative fence contract for Waters Edge Park for $78,547.50.
The consent agenda also includes a resolution urging the federal government to extend the deadline for CARES funding. Also, appointing volunteers to the fire pension board, the parks and recreation board, the planning board, and the public art committee.
The commission will be selecting a new vice mayor on the regular agenda, ending Marlon Bolton’s selection in 2019. Typically this position rotates to all the commissioners, and this year it will be Mike Gelin’s turn if the rest of the commission approves.
Bolton also requested an overview of the mayor and commissioners’ responsibilities on the agenda.
Only one item is up for first reading—an ordinance creating and codifying a diversity, equity, and inclusion advisory board for the city.
Finally, the city will decide on the approval or rejection of the Woodmont Hotel’s major revised site plan and special exception for land use. Not only will residents be able to comment via email and phone, but also through video.
The meeting will occur on Wednesday, December 9, at 7:00 p.m. and can be viewed online.
