Captain Michael Boyhan was named Tamarac Fire Rescue Firefighter of the Year and praised by his colleagues for setting the bar in terms of leadership and continued involvement, initiative, and commitment to the organization.
Tamarac Fire Chief Michael Annese awarded Boyhan a plaque at the Jan. 25 city commission meeting, saying choosing the best firefighter wasn’t an easy task as everybody in the department was doing a fantastic job.
“We had some great nominees, but Boyhan is one above all the rest,” Chief Annese said.
According to fire rescue, Boyhan is passionate about EMS training and even started an EMS competition team in Tamarac. As a team leader, he continually practices off-duty and on-duty with his group and competes in as many competitions as the team can attend.
On his days off, Boyhan also serves as a lead instructor at the Emergency Education Institute in Coral Springs, where he taught hundreds of future EMTs and paramedics over the years. He also “goes the extra mile” and helps students prepare for certification exams and navigate the hiring process.
