Mike Gelin
Former city commissioner Mike Gelin, who has branded himself as a source of Tamarac news, is facing criticism after providing residents with inaccurate information about city commission meeting dates, while also preparing to appear in court on a criminal battery charge.
Gelin, who frequently presents himself as an authority on city happenings, recently misinformed residents by stating that commission meetings take place on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. In reality, the Tamarac City Commission meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays.
The misinformation comes at a time when Gelin is under legal scrutiny. As reported by Tamarac Talk in April, Gelin is set to appear before a judge on June 2 for a battery charge stemming from an incident last fall. His court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Broward County Main Courthouse at 201 Southeast 6th St. in Fort Lauderdale.
According to court records, prosecutors filed the charge on April 14, alleging that Gelin, 50, intentionally touched or struck fellow former commissioner Elvin Villalobos during an altercation on Oct. 24, 2024, outside the Tamarac Library polling location at 8701 W. Commercial Blvd. Villalobos was filming the exchange when the alleged battery occurred.
Gelin has not responded to prior requests for comment, and whether he has retained legal counsel remains unclear.
