Former Tamarac City Commissioner Elberg Mike Gelin is scheduled to face a judge June 2 in his first court appearance since prosecutors charged him with battery, court records show.
According to a criminal summons, Gelin is required to appear in state court for allegedly roughing up former colleague Elvin Villalobos outside a polling place in October. His court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Broward’s main courthouse at 201 Southeast 6th St. in Fort Lauderdale.
Prosecutors on April 14 charged Gelin, 50, of Tamarac with one count of simple battery – a misdemeanor – for allegedly intentionally touching or striking Villalobos as Villalobos filmed him during an Oct. 24 altercation outside the Tamarac Library at 8701 W. Commercial Blvd, an arrest form states.
Gelin did not respond to previous requests for comment, and it was not clear whether he had an attorney.
