A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy was struck and injured by a motorist during a traffic stop Friday night in Tamarac. The driver passed away approximately an hour after the crash.

At 11:28 p.m. on November 13, Deputy Angel Alcantara conducted a traffic stop on an unrelated vehicle in the left turn lane in the eastbound lanes of West Commercial Blvd, just west of University Dr. near the 7700 block of West Commercial Blvd, in the city of Tamarac.

Deputy Daniel Park had responded as back-up and had positioned his marked unit behind and to the right of the first deputy’s marked patrol vehicle. Both marked units had their emergency lights activated. Deputy Alcantara was seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle writing a citation while Deputy Park stood at the open passenger side door.

William Harold Grundy, 49, of North Lauderdale was driving a silver Chevrolet El Camino traveling eastbound on West Commercial Blvd. approaching the marked units. He failed to move over and struck the back of Deputy Park’s car pushing it into Deputy Alcantara’s marked unit. At that moment, Grundy also struck Deputy Park who sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Park was transported to Broward Health Medical Center by Tamarac Fire Rescue. Grundy was transported to Broward Health Medical Center by air with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at 12:23 a.m. No one else was injured in the crash.

The investigation is on-going.
