The Dalmatian sculpture scheduled for installation at Tamarac Fire Station 36 finally has a name after city commissioners chose a winner on Wednesday.
Out of 16 entries, the winning essay is “Speckles McFreckles” by Adoni Wollaston, a 5th grade Challenger Elementary student.
“I feel like since this dog is part of such a large family as the City of Tamarac, this name needs to be something as important if we were naming a human,” he wrote.
Wollaston’s essay goes on to explain that the name is unisex and represents the dog’s personality.
Mindful that the sculpture will be in District 4, Vice Mayor Elvin Villalobos suggested Commissioner Debra Placko share her choice. Placko, a member of the Public Art Committee who could not vote on the entries, chose Speckles McFreckles.
Both Mayor Michelle Gomez and Commissioner Marlon Bolton agreed with her choice.
Wollaston receives a tablet with internet service and a $100 Visa gift card for the winning entry. Not to mention a statue in Tamarac called Speckles McFreckles that he named.
