Barbara Tarnove – President of the Tamarac Historical Society holds the new book “Images of America Tamarac” at Tamarac City Hall

By: Barbara Tarnove

As a founding member of the Tamarac Historical Society, I have always been interested in history. Our organization has often been asked, “Why does Tamarac have a Historical Society?”

There is one simple reason: That the past causes both the present and the future.

The Historical Society is a small group of dedicated volunteers who have been meeting for the last four years to make sure we document the history of our city.

Our mission is to research, collect, preserve, and exhibit the history of Tamarac with goals of enlightening the community about our heritage, and passing on an enduring legacy for future generations.

The historical society set out to understand our beginnings, and thanks to Tamarac founder Ken Behring, we have a great story to tell about the land that was formerly uninhabitable, has been transformed into the city we have today.

And that is just some of what you will read about in our new book: Image of America – Tamarac. We compiled approximately 200 pictures some dating back to 1957 to tell our story.

Our book is now available, and it is my hope that you will want to learn more about the history of our city and read this book.

For only $21.99 payable by either cash or check, you will also receive a complimentary copy of Ken Behring’s book Road to Purpose, while supplies last.

Email your order to history@tamarac.org or leave your contact information at 954-597-3629. All books ordered through us will be delivered by us.

Also, if you have any information of the early days of the city we would love to include it in our archives. Please contact us at history@tamarac.org.

Barbara Tarnove is the President of the Tamarac Historical Society and has been the only president in the four years the historical society has been in existence. She has lived in Tamarac for 35 years and is a graduate of Tamarac University.
