As Tamarac’s population grows and evolves, so do the job markets and restaurant menus– and soon, even more, opportunities are coming to the city.

Lori Funderwhite, Tamarac’s Economic Development Manager, updated the city commission at their workshop on the economic growth in the Tamarac.  While she was there, she highlighted new businesses in the area—including construction headquarters, local restaurants, and dessert shops.

“We have a lot of new businesses,” said Funderwhite.

William R. Nash Mechanical Contractors’ new headquarters will be in Tamarac’s commerce park, after consolidating their Miami and South Florida offices.

“Their brand new consolidated headquarters will have about 120 headquarter employees, which will include many job opportunities for our residents in the construction trade,” said Funderwhite.

She also highlighted some new restaurants that have come to Tamarac in the past year, which include Pollo Tropical, Lemon N Spice, and Midnight Cookies & Cream.

Pollo Tropical, a popular Latin Caribbean fast-food franchise, is located at 8851 W. Commercial Blvd.  They offer a drive-thru and items such as sweet plantains, fried yuca, and black beans with white rice.

Lemon N Spice, a Halal Indian/Pakistani restaurant, had its grand opening in August. Located at 7130 N University Drive,  they serve up hot South Asian dishes, such as samosas, biriyani, and naan.  They participated in their first-ever Taste of Tamarac this past October.

Jamaican restaurant Butter Flakes Bakery & Grill located at 5100 W Commercial Blvd at the Sabal Palm Plaza is now open, serving a variety of meals, such as stew peas, callaloo, and potato salad.

One restaurant she mentioned isn’t open. Still, she was excited to announce Midnight Cookies & Cream, in the Mural Plaza on University. With locations in Hollywood and Miami, they serve up desserts like ice cream sandwiches, freshly baked gourmet cookies, and customed-made milkshakes. They’ll even offer delivery and pickup late into the night.

Fundwerwhite said, “I’m a little too excited about that one.”
