An investigation is underway into the circumstances that led to a vehicle traveling on the Turnpike striking and killing a pedestrian.

At 12:48 a.m. on November 21, a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old female from Miami who was traveling south on the Florida Turnpike tragically struck and killed a 30-year-old female pedestrian near the Commercial Boulevard overpass.

According to a statement received from the Florida Highway Patrol, for reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was standing or walking on the outside paved shoulder when they suddenly darted in an easterly direction directly into the path of a vehicle.

Despite the driver’s efforts, she could not maneuver around the pedestrian, resulting in a collision between her vehicle’s front bumper/hood areas and the woman, tossing her to the side of the road.

According to the report, the pedestrian was thrown in a southeasterly direction onto the inside paved shoulder and came to a final rest in an upward position, facing a westerly direction.

Emergency services, including Tamarac Fire Rescue personnel, responded swiftly. Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the report, the driver immediately came to a controlled stop facing a southerly direction south of the collision and cooperated with law enforcement.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing as authorities work to determine the factors leading to this tragic event.
