A Tamarac pizza delivery driver faces first-degree robbery charges for purportedly masterminding a home invasion and gunpoint robbery targeting an older customer he had befriended.
On August 6, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Tamarac residence in response to a distress call from a woman claiming to have been the victim of an armed robbery.
According to records, the victim called 911 to report that two Black males forcibly entered her home, grabbed her, threw her onto a bed, and pointed a firearm at her head.
The victim told detectives that the assailants demanded money before fleeing the home with her purse and contents.
During the subsequent investigation, law enforcement determined that the perpetrators had utilized the victim’s credit card at the Sawgrass Mills Mall.
Upon describing the events that had taken place before the robbery, the victim explained to law enforcement that a pizza delivery driver she had befriended in the past and only knew as “Juan” had stopped by to visit.
According to the victim, Juan, later identified as Juan Millan, 20, of Tamarac, reached for the door to leave. However, it was then that two males entered her home and robbed her at gunpoint.
The victim told officers it appeared Juan and the two men knew each other, further confirming fears he was anything but a victim of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, but rather part of a set-up to rob the woman.
With a lead and name to go on, a break in the case came after law enforcement discovered Millan had worked as a delivery driver at the Pizza Stop & Restaurant, located at 8275 North Pine Island Road.
Upon further questioning by law enforcement, the restaurant owner revealed that Millan had admitted to being involved in the home invasion robbery, expressed remorse, and even provided the owner with a sum of money, a reported $1,000, to repay the victim for her losses.
The owner then handed over the money as evidence to the authorities.
According to Google, the Pizza Stop & Restaurant has now permanently closed. In addition, the restaurant’s Facebook account has been set to private.
With evidence of his involvement in hand, BSO detectives contacted Millan on August 9, requesting he voluntarily come forth for an interview.
The eventual arrest report shows that officers filmed Millan’s interview, where he provided further evidence of his crimes and admitted to orchestrating the robbery with his two accomplices, whose identities remain unknown.
Millan disclosed that they had premeditated the crime, exploiting the victim’s vulnerability due to her age. Detailing how the crime took place, he described to detectives how he left the victim’s front door unlocked, facilitating the entry of his partners into her home.
During the confession, Millan described witnessing his partners brandish a black firearm, forcing the victim to surrender her possessions. After the robbery, Millan acknowledged using the victim’s credit card at various stores in Sawgrass Mills Mall, including Calvin Klein, Abercrombie, a Vape store, GameStop, a jewelry store, Sportive, and even a McDonald’s restaurant.
While he attempted transactions at all these locations, Millan was only successful in four instances.
Records show Millan was so remorseful for his actions that he revealed to detectives that he had written an apology letter to the victim, an additional piece of evidence in the case.
Millan was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
