A recent state food and health safety inspection of Lakay Mama Restaurant found 15 violations, including roach activity, during a January 6 visit.
According to the inspection report, officials found numerous dead roaches throughout the restaurant located at 5572 West Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderhill, including inside a hand-washing sink at the kitchen entrance, along walls near sinks, on electrical circuits by the front counter, and across multiple areas of the kitchen floor and equipment.
Inspectors also reported dead roaches on glue traps in a heater room used to store dry goods, indicating awareness of an ongoing roach issue, further evidenced by the fact that the Lakay Mama Restaurant has a history of roach-related warnings, with similar issues documented on August 20, 2025, March 27, 2025, and July 2, 2024.
Inspectors also cited the restaurant for unsanitary food-contact surfaces, including a microwave handle and dry storage ingredient racks that were soiled with food debris and a mold-like substance. Grease and food buildup were also found around the cooking equipment, heavy residue on the wall behind the triple sink, and mold on the walk-in cooler fan.
Plumbing concerns were also documented. Inspectors observed brownish water mixed with food debris backing up through a floor drain beneath a sink. When the water was turned on, an employee was observed collecting the backup water in buckets.
Additional violations included a lack of proof of required state-approved food safety training for employees and the operation’s possession of an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license at the time of the inspection.
State records indicate that the violations must be addressed to remain in compliance with Florida food safety regulations.
