Martin Luther King Jr.
The City of Tamarac will honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. through music, movement, and spoken word during Rhythm of a Dream: An MLK Performing Arts Celebration on Friday, Jan. 16.
The free, family-friendly event will be held at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd., with pre-show experiences beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will be hosted by Darius V. Daughtry, founder and artistic director of the Art Prevails Project.
Designed as an artistic tribute to King’s vision and impact, the program will feature dance performances by Simone’s Just Dance Performing Arts, instrumental interludes by South Florida saxophonist Doug McDonald, and vocal selections by Voices of Rain. Also appearing on stage will be The Men of Impact Step Team, the official male step squad from Piper High School.
The celebration will include a reflective spoken-word performance by Daughtry, adding an interactive element intended to engage the audience in themes of unity, justice and hope.
The program is free and open to the public.
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, City of Tamarac offices will be closed.
