In just two weeks, two people have lost their lives near the same intersection, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office is urging pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and for motorists to remain alert.
According to detectives, at approximately 5:30 a.m., 69-year-old Elizabeth Anderson, who was not in the crosswalk, was walking east to west on North State Road 7 just south of the intersection at Northwest 41 Street in Lauderdale Lakes when she was hit by a southbound vehicle.
Homicide detectives said the driver of the 2016 Kia Sorrento, Emanuel Beecher, 73, of Tamarac, was traveling in the center through lane.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene, and Anderson was flown to Broward Health Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at approximately 7:36 a.m.
On February 2, Goonwatty Ramnarine, 59, of Margate, was crossing in the middle near that same area of State Road 7 and was struck and killed before 7 a.m.
