Self-isolation does not have to be such an isolating experience, at least, not if you share the experience with a four-legged buddy in need of a home.
The company of a dog or cat is widely recognized to be a stress reliever, and a pet can also give you something to focus on away from the news or social media.
Luckily, Broward County Animal Care has a wide variety of dogs and cats waiting eagerly for a foster home where they can spend the next month away from the shelter; in fact, fosters are needed more urgently than ever because the shelter is bursting at the seams and the dogs and cats need the community’s help.
Fostering is not a lifelong commitment, but it is a commitment to saving a life.
Dogs like Baby (A2061661) a friendly, polite French bulldog mix, shy black mouth cur Tess (A2072606) senior Labrador Smokey (A2064712) and cats like celebrity lookalike Garfield (A2067005). Elon. Also, Zeus (A2072917), Apple (A2054837), and S’mores (A2030895) desperately need a foster parent.
Tamarac residents who would like to foster, need to simply head down to the shelter with picture ID and proof of address. Then, ask a volunteer to help match you with your perfect isolation buddy and spend the next few weeks showering them with love.
Bonus — your kids can earn service hours by participating in the foster program.
Due to the shelter closing to the public, please complete the adoption application online and make an appointment to meet the dog or cat. Foster Application Dog Adoption Cat Adoption.
Broward County Animal Care and Adoption is at 2400 SW 42nd Street, Fort Lauderdale. Open Tuesday – Sunday.
