A woman was kicked out of a real estate training school in Tamarac after she refused to wear a COVID-19 mask, leading to a disturbance in a classroom, records show.

The 58-year-old female student, who Tamarac Talk is not identifying because she was not arrested, “didn`t want to put her mask on and was causing a disturbance in the class” at Gold Coast Schools, 5600 Hiatus Rd.,  according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office incident report.

A school employee told Tamarac deputies the student “was also taking photos of other students, and the school wanted us to have her leave” after the Jan. 29 incident, according to a BSO report.

Deputies asked the female school staffer whether the student “would be able to return another day for the class” and was told “they did not want her back at the school,” according to the incident report.

Deputies then told the staffer “that in order for us to have someone leave the school and not be able to return, someone who represents the school would have to tell [the student] she [has] trespassed in front of us.”

Next, the staffer brought deputies to a classroom and told the student she was trespassed in front of them, according to the report.

Outside the classroom, the student told deputies she understood she was being kicked off school property, and also said it was “not the law to wear a mask,” the report states.

“I told her I understood and that she did not have to wear a mask, but that the school said they felt she was causing a disturbance and they trespassed her,” a deputy wrote in the report.

“While talking to [the student] in the hallway, she pointed out and requested that I document that there were other people walking through the hallway and coming out of classes with no mask on, which was correct.”

School staffers told deputies the student would be allowed to finish the day’s class online since she had paid for it, according to BSO.

After completing her class online, she left the property, records show.

Gold Coast Schools bills itself as Florida’s leading provider of classroom and online real estate, insurance, construction, mortgage, and appraisal courses.

Its website does not list campus rules for COVID-19 masking.
