After completing an extensive renovation, Spitfire Farm makes an even better choice for a safe, enriching summer camp.
The premier equestrian facility in Coconut Creek, which houses 36 horses on 5-acres, is owned by Ejola and Paul Cook. Paul is in the active reserve in the Air Force, and Ejola, a corporate attorney, was once a competitive rider.
As a working mom of four, Ejola knows how hard it is to find somewhere to keep children occupied without their electronics. She decided to create Spitfire Farm Horse Camp to get kids out in the fresh air exploring what the world has to offer.
From learning the parts of running a farm and caring for horses, the children also go on scavenger hunts, play tag, and take nature walks. With five acres of space to roam, plus the addition of an air-conditioned clubhouse, campers have even more opportunities for fun.
According to Ejola, parents will call and want to try one day of camp to see if it’s a good fit.
“Before you know it, they don’t want to leave,” she said. “Our repeat campers are really starting to learn technique and move forward with their riding.”
The farm is home to horses of various levels and experiences, from rescues to advanced competitors -each with its own story. The Cooks keep the camp reasonably small, and children are placed into groups based on their age and skill level.
“We take kids with all levels of experience – some who have never ridden before and others who compete,” said Ejola. “We limit it, so they all get that hands-on experience of being active with the horses.

As one of the few farms in Coconut Creek where horses can be ridden into Tradewinds Park, campers can enjoy the miles of equestrian trails on field trips. They also have scheduled arts and crafts, water play days, and hear from guest speakers who teach different aspects of horse care.
New this summer are Friday Fun Days – Ejola plans to surprise the kids with different activities on Fridays – something creative to cap off each week.

Spitfire Farm’s Summer Horse Camp takes place Monday through Friday during the weeks of June 6, June 13, July 11, July 18, and August 1. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with before and aftercare available from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Open to children starting at age five, the cost is $85 per day or $400 for the week, and space is limited. Reserve a spot by calling 954-903-1772.
