Antisemitic graffiti was discovered at Veterans’ Park in Tamarac on Monday, according to Mayor Michelle Gomez.
Several swastikas were drawn at the city property, which is under construction, Gomez wrote on her Facebook page.
“As Mayor of Tamarac and a member of the Jewish faith, I am appalled and ashamed at this heinous act,” Gomez wrote. “On the eve of the 84th Anniversary of Kristallnacht (The Night of Broken Glass), this resurgence of Antisemitism is disturbing and painful.”
“Further, our honorable military veterans have fought and sacrificed their lives to defend our freedoms. They deserve better. Antisemitism, prejudice, and discrimination have no place in our society.”
Gomez did not include additional details in her post.
She denounced the “act of hatred,” calling Tamarac a “city that embraces diversity and celebrates our differences.”
“Our dedicated staff is already working to remove the graffiti. We’re working closely with BSO Tamarac District investigators to hold any responsible party accountable.”
