The city of Tamarac is proposing a new addition to the neighborhood: A small park is planned for the city-owned property across from the Caporella Aquatic Complex.
The proposed park, located at the northeast corner of NW 94 Ave and NW 58 Street, will include a large shaded playground, benches, picnic shelters with tables, as well as a walk-bridge over the canal.
A public meeting will be held on Monday, July 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to gain resident’s input on the project.
The 1.72-acre parcel of land was purchased with grant dollars in 2004. Due to its proximity to the aquatic center, the city has always had the desire to develop it as a park.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Greg Warner, since the final design hasn’t been determined, they want to hear from residents and share their ideas, and see if they have other suggestions that may work, both financially and conceptually for that parcel.
Elise Boston, spokesperson for the city, said having a large playground at that location will be ideal with the two schools across the street, the adjacent aquatic center, along with the future Tamarac Village, which will have 400 apartments.
Warner said he encourages everyone to come out for the meeting, share their feedback and hopefully become excited about the project.
The plan is to present input to the city commission in July with an agreement for a contractor. With construction commencing in the winter, the proposed completion would be in the summer of 2020.
