On January 21, there were 131,117 COVID-19 tests conducted in the State of Florida, out of those, 20,695 returned positive, and 13,435 were new cases.
This is the most cases in Florida since January 14, when the state recorded over 24,000. In addition to the increase in cases, the positivity rate rose to 15.78-percent, far-and-away the highest the state has seen in weeks.
There were 4,285 positive COVID-19 cases in the City of Tamarac — an increase of 61 positive cases since January 20.
Statewide in Florida, there have been 1,627,603 positive COVID-19 cases to date. Florida is one of only a handful of states in the U.S. to have recorded over 1 million COVID-19 cases, with only California and Texas registering the most cases in the country.
The average age to contract COVID-19 in Broward County on January 21 was 40-years-old. For months, the average age has hovered at or around 40-years-old.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 25,011 deaths to date in Florida due to COVID-19 and a total of 69,735 patients hospitalized due to the virus.
