On March 5, the Florida Department of Health reported there have now been over 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccinations administered statewide. The number of doses, 5,074,996, to be exact, accounts for 15.82 percent of Floridians having received at least one dose of the vaccination.
Florida has fully vaccinated 8.82-percent of its population, half-a-percent more than the state reported on March 3. Broward County has a population of 1,9 million residents as of 2019 and 441,200 doses of the vaccine have been administered, with 161,600 people now fully vaccinated.
COVID-19 Update
On March 5 reported COVID-19 cases, 129,170 tests were conducted. Out of those, 9,478 came back positive. Of the positive test results, 5,941 were those finding out they had tested positive for the first time.
The March 5 data shows that testing, cases, and the positivity rate all saw an increase compared to days prior. The positivity rate ticked up to 6.84-percent, a small increase compared to the numbers reported on March 4, yet still much lower than data Floridians became accustomed to seeing at the peak of the pandemic.
Tamarac has reported 5,273 total positive COVID-19 cases — an increase of just 36 positive cases since March 3.
Statewide in Florida, there have been 1,936,207 positive cases to date. The average age to contract the virus in Broward County on March 4 was 37-years-old for the second-straight day, slightly younger than usual. For months, the average Floridian to test positive has hovered between 39 and 42-years-old.
Since the pandemic began, 80,632 Floridians have been hospitalized due to complications of COVID-19, and 31,522 have died. Of the total deaths, 2,438 were from Broward County.
