Tamarac Crime Update: Latest Incidents Through March 2

Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates to residents, this is a summary of crimes that occurred in Tamarac through March 2.

Auto Theft

7800 block of Dixie Beach Circle – Sanibel Community

On February 27, the victim reported her vehicle was stolen from the front of her home during the evening or early hours of the day.

7770 NW 78 Ave – Woodmont Park Apartment Homes

On March 2, the victim reported a Black Honda Accord was stolen overnight.

Battery



7201 North University Drive – University Medical Center

On February 28, the female victim was punched in the face several times by a patient. The victim expressed her desire to document the incident and not pursue filing charges against the patient.

Burglary Business



3178 West Commercial Blvd – Metro PCS store

On February 25, the listed suspect smashed the front window, and the alarm did not notify the alarm company. The suspect made entry and stole $733.17 contained in a drop safe. The suspect departed out the rear door with the safe over his shoulder.

Burglary Conveyance

6000 block of NW 70 Ave – Mainlands of Tamarac Lakes

On February 25, a witness observed two male adults burglarizing his neighbor’s vehicle. A perimeter was established, and two males, matching the witness’s description of them, were located, detained, and arrested. Both victims signed sworn burglary victim affidavits and provided sworn recorded statements desiring prosecution. A stolen $20 bill was recovered from one of the subjects and returned to the victim.

7401 North University Drive – University Community Medical Plaza

On February 25, a plumbing work van had the rear window forced and a plumbing machine and tubing were stolen. ($2,000 value) There was no video of the surrounding buildings and no witnesses. One latent print was lifted from the exterior of the van’s rear door. The victim had the same incident occur in the past.

8200 block of San Carlos Circle – Sanibel community

On February 27, deputies responded to document a burglary conveyance overnight.

Burglary Residence

7400 block of North Devon Drive – Devon community

On February 28, the victim discovered jewelry missing from her jewelry box. She last saw her jewelry the previous day around 9:30 am. A male in the home also found his jewelry was missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

Criminal Mischief

NW 80 Court /NW 74 Terrace – Heathgate Racquetball Court

On February 27, an unknown suspect graffitied and spray-painted on the racquetball court wall in the community.

9901 NW 77 Street – Tamarac Sports Park

On February 28, a metal fence pole on the tennis court was reported damaged, possibly by a vehicle. Another fence pole was damaged by unknown means at the skate park entrance.

Drugs/Narcotic Offenses

On February 25, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle after the driver was observed not wearing his seatbelt. After conducting the traffic stop, the driver was arrested for possession of cocaine. One unlabeled capsule field-tested positive for cocaine was found inside the vehicle’s cup holder.

3873 West Commercial Blvd – The Extended Stay Hotel

On February 29, the reporting person advised that an unknown male used a master key issued to a hotel vendor to sleep in an unoccupied room.

Property damage



7300 block of NW 83 Way – Woodmont

On March 1, the reporting person wanted to report property damage committed by a golf ball to her sliding glass door.

6800 North Pine Island Road – Glades at Colony West Country Club

On March 2, the reporter was going through the parking lot at work, and a construction gate blew open and hit the side of her car, causing minor damage.

Recovered Auto



7500 block of Bailey Road/Woodlands Blvd

On February 25, after conducting surveillance and proactive enforcement about several suspicious re-VIN/clone vehicles, contact was made with a male during a traffic stop. The vehicle (a grey Cadillac) the subject was driving was confirmed to be an actively stolen vehicle out of Miami-Dade County. The Cadillac displayed a fraudulent VIN plate as well as a fraudulently obtained Florida license plate. The vehicle was removed from the system as stolen and towed by Westway Towing. The subject was taken into custody and also found to be in possession of five personal credit cards and IDs belonging to other people. He was charged accordingly and transported to BSO Main Jail for booking.

Shooting

5600 block of Rock Island Road

On February 28, the victim’s vehicle was shot four times with an unknown firearm.

8181 North University Drive – Flats on the Green

On March 1, three shots were fired during an altercation in the parking lot.

Suspicious incident

5800 block of Woodland Point Drive – Woodland Point Place

On February 27, an exterior video system captured a subject walking through the backyard of a residence.

Theft – bicycle

9200 block of Lime Bay Blvd – Lime Bay Condominiums

On February 25, an unknown person(s) used a key and entered a storage room. They broke the lock for a storage compartment and took a 10 to 15-year-old unlocked bike. There were no signs of forced entry to the outside door.

Theft – all other

6200 block of NW 57 Street – Bermuda Club

On February 25, the victim reported an unknown subject(s) took 59 bags ($236) of Jolly Gardener brown mulch off of his 24 ft. Anderson flatbed trailer that was parked in the community parking lot hitched onto the back of his pickup truck. Pictures of the scene were taken. No witnesses or video surveillance were available.

6300 block of West Pinehurst Circle – Wedgewood

On February 26, the victim reported he left his golf bag with his golf clubs on his driveway while waiting to get picked up. He went inside for approximately ten minutes, and someone stole the golf clubs from the driveway ($675 value).

4800 block of NW 48 Terrace – Hidden Trails

On February 28, the reporting person advised that roofing materials were stolen from a construction site between February 25 and 27.

Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts



7200 block of South Devon Drive – Devon Community

On February 26, the victim reported an unknown suspect stole rims and tires off of his Toyota Corolla while parked overnight.

Theft – retail, shoplifting

3150 West Commercial Blvd – Family Dollar Store

On February 25, an unknown male stole three multi-purpose dusters from Family Dollar. The cashier was able to get the suspect’s license plate number.

On February 26, a male entered the store and stole a black garbage pail and Tide laundry detergent.
