Tamarac’s mayor and commissioners will honor five barrier-breaking professionals to celebrate Black History Month.
The honorees are Dr. Francine Baugh-Stewart, Principal of Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy; Dr. Sherine J.E. Brown, Internal Medicine Specialist at HCA Woodmont Hospital; Aneatra S. King, Community Engagement Specialist at Broward County Public Schools; Patricia D. Parkins, a community volunteer in the Tamarac area; and Charles B. Morton, Jr., J.D., who served nearly 37 years as an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County.
The recipients will be honored during a proclamation presentation held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. inside Tamarac City Hall’s Commission Chamber, 7525 NW 88th Ave.
The city is also hosting a number of special events in observance of Black History Month including a Feb. 26 celebration from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Caporella Park, 5200 Prospect Rd.
Scheduled entertainment at the celebration includes poetry from Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughn, performance by Delou African Dance Ensemble, jazz music by EJ & Company, and art displays.
On-site parking will be limited, and attendees are encouraged to use the shuttle bus from the Christian Life Center, 2699 W. Commercial Blvd.
