As many parents struggle to balance work and virtual school for their children, the Tamarac Parks and Recreation is launching their own program to help.
The LPE — or Learn Play Engage Program is an in-person system, designed for students in grades three to six where staff will assist children with their daily school log in and some school work while providing structure to their days.
Participants must bring their laptops, chargers, headphones, all required school supplies, and breakfast and lunch. The city will provide afternoon snacks.
At LPE, masks must be worn by teachers and students unless they have a medical exemption. Both groups will have their temperatures checked daily—with temperatures of 100 degrees or more not being permitted in the facility.
Social distancing will also be prioritized, and the city plans to cap the program with a maximum ratio of eight students to one staff member, and a maximum of 32 children in the program.
Held at Tamarac Park, registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Drop-off is between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m., and virtual learning is between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Activities and crafts will be provided by the city between 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The cost is $130 per week for residents, and for non-residents, it is $150 per week. There are second-child discounts available for parents with more than one child attending the program.
