A man who shot his Tamarac neighbor to death in the stairwell of their apartment complex has been charged with first-degree murder, authorities said Thursday.
Howard Jacobs, 55, was arrested on April 12 for allegedly killing his neighbor, Ronald Paul, 29, in a premeditated slaying on Jan. 27, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives.
Detectives identified Jacobs as the murder suspect through undisclosed investigative methods, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He was taken into custody at his Tamarac home Tuesday night and booked into the Broward Main Jail. He was being held there without bond Thursday night.
On the day of Paul’s killing, BSO Tamarac District deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded to a shooting call in the Gate Condominiums at the 6100 block of Woodlands Boulevard. There, they found Paul shot multiple times in the stairwell of 6190 Woodlands Boulevard. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Jacobs, the accused killer, lives in apartment 301 of the building where the murder happened, records show.
Paul, the victim, lived in apartment 502.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the killing.
