Following reports of a shooting, a Tamarac man was arrested and charged with multiple gun and drug charges.

Anthony Alicea, 20, Tamarac, was arrested and charged on February 14 with multiple felony offenses, including grand theft of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and over 20 grams of possession of cannabis.

On February 14, Broward County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 9000 block of NW 57th St, Tamarac.

According to the arrest report, witnesses reported the shooter allegedly fled in a white Mercedes Benz sedan. As deputies circled the area, they discovered a vehicle matching the description of the alleged suspects parked in an apartment complex nearby.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies activated the patrol vehicle spotlights and asked the individuals inside the vehicle, one of which was later identified as Alicea, to exit.

The arrest report shows that both Alicea and the vehicle’s driver, identified as a man named Axl Mendez, were detained.

The report shows before questioning began, a strong odor of cannabis was reported to have emanated from the vehicle, and a clear mason jar filled with marijuana was found on the passenger seat.

Deputies indicated in the report a further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of another clear mason jar under the passenger side seat containing 28 grams of cannabis wrapped in a grey shirt and a black Glock 19- 9mm firearm.

A database search revealed that the firearm was stolen from Orange County and was in constructive possession of Alicea due to the gun’s location within the vehicle.

Deputies questioned both the driver and Alicea about which man claimed possession of the cannabis and firearm found, and the report shows after initial denials, the driver indicated the gun belonged to Alicea.

Alicea was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released on a $2,000 bond.
