
Wyclef Jean and philanthropist Melky Jean. {City of Tamarac}
The City of Tamarac will honor global music icon Wyclef Jean and entrepreneur and philanthropist Melky Jean with the Key to the City during a special reception on Friday, May 1, at 12 p.m. at Tamarac City Hall.
The event, held in recognition of Haitian American Heritage Month, will celebrate the siblings’ global impact across music, business, technology, and humanitarian efforts.
The ceremony will include multiple proclamations from local and state leaders. State Rep. Lisa Dunkley is set to declare May 1 as Wyclef and Melky Jean Day in Florida. Broward County Commissioners Hazelle P. Rogers and Alexandra P. Davis will issue a county proclamation and present the pair with the Key to Broward County.
Tamarac Vice Mayor Marlon D. Bolton will present the city’s highest honor.
Wyclef Jean rose to international prominence as a founding member of The Fugees, helping produce the multi-platinum album The Score. His solo career includes chart-topping hits such as “Gone Till November” and collaborations with artists including Carlos Santana and Beyoncé. Beyond music, he has been active in philanthropy, education and global initiatives.
Melky Jean, a Grammy-nominated singer and entrepreneur, is the founder of The Carma Foundation, which focuses on food security, healthcare access, housing and education initiatives worldwide. She is also the CEO of Saint Sauveur Haitian Heritage Rum, a brand highlighting Haitian culture and economic empowerment.
