BSO: Tamarac Woman Exploited Man, Misappropriated $345,000 in Assets 4

A Tamarac woman is accused of exploiting a senior and misappropriating approximately $345,000 in assets, including proceeds from selling his Pompano Beach home without his permission.

According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Joy Yvette Holder, 56, was arrested September 17 on charges of exploitation of an elderly person involving $100,000 or more and criminal intent to solicit or conspire.

Investigators allege Holder obtained power of attorney for the man despite knowing he lacked the capacity to consent, then used that authority to unlawfully sell his home on South Cypress Road in Pompano Beach.

According to the report, a title and escrow company wired approximately $319,000 in proceeds into a Citibank account held jointly in Holder’s and the victim’s names in September 2022.

Investigators allege Holder and another person identified as Ray Holder used the money for their personal benefit. Joy Holder also allegedly laundered funds through payments to her business, Joy’s Cleaning.

The report identifies Ray Holder as an alleged co-conspirator because of his access to and use of the money. Investigators also named Reannah Ashlyn Mariah Holder as an alleged co-conspirator, accusing her of interfering with efforts by court personnel, the Florida Department of Children and Families, and law enforcement.

According to investigators, Ray and Reannah Holder allegedly attempted to prevent a DCF welfare check on July 19, 2023, after an investigator told them she planned to visit the victim that day. The pair allegedly attempted to drive him to Orlando under the pretext of visiting his “sister.”

Authorities also allege Ray Holder had the victim sign a bill of sale transferring ownership of his 2017 Nissan Maxima, which the victim had purchased for more than $31,000.

Joy Holder was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. There is no record yet of arrests for the other named accomplices in the alleged crimes.
