Tamarac Woman Killed in Crash on Turnpike

By Kevin Deutsch

A 23-year-old Tamarac woman was killed Saturday in a crash involving three vehicles on Florida’s Turnpike just north of Griffin Road, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not made public, was thrown from her SUV in the northbound lanes around 1 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

She was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

The crash happened when the SUV struck the right rear of an unoccupied pickup truck parked on the turnpike shoulder, then overturned, according to FHP.

Investigators are still probing what caused the woman to veer out of control, troopers said.

The SUV, overturned in traffic, was struck by a sedan driven by a 64-year-old Hollywood man, according to FHP. He was not injured, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
