A spree of armed robberies across Broward County ended when law enforcement apprehended three suspects believed to be responsible for a series of violent heists at convenience stores and gas stations.
The suspects, identified as Angel Juan Usera, 18, of West Palm Beach, and two additional juvenile males, were arrested following a dramatic police pursuit.
The crime wave began on September 20 when an armed robbery occurred at Tubby’s Liquor Store at 6980 West McNab Road. At the time, the suspect was described as an unidentified male suspect, wearing a dark hoodie and brandishing a handgun.
According to the report, the man confronted an employee at the cash register and demanded money. Surveillance footage from Tubby’s Liquor Store provided crucial evidence in the investigation. During the subsequent ten days, the same silver Infiniti and the same two individuals committed three additional armed robberies at gas stations throughout Broward County.
Law enforcement agencies collaborated and shared information about the suspect descriptions and the silver Infiniti involved in the crimes. On October 1, a Margate Police officer spotted the suspicious silver Infiniti at the Orion Gas Station at 6900 West Atlantic Boulevard, leading to a high-speed chase.
The pursuit ended in Tamarac, where all three suspects fled the vehicle and attempted to escape. With the assistance of the Broward Sheriff’s Office aviation unit, the suspects were tracked down and taken into custody.
Following their arrest, Usera provided a detailed confession, admitting his involvement in a total of five armed robberies that have recently taken place across Broward County, including the Tubby’s Liquor Store incident. He stated that he committed the crimes because he needed money to help his family and revealed that he used a BB gun.
In addition to the Tubby’s Liquor Store incident, the three suspects were also found to be linked to armed robberies at the Chevron Gas Station in North Lauderdale on September 27 and thefts of 7-11 and Mobil gas stations in Sunrise on September 30. In all the reported robberies, the men used the same playbook, threatening clerks with firearms while demanding money.
All three suspects face multiple charges related to the armed robberies, including armed robbery with a firearm, fleeing and eluding, and resisting officers without violence.
Usera was transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail, while the younger men faced procedures for juveniles suspected of serious crimes.
Usera was released on October 5 after posting a $250,000 bond.
