A routine traffic stop in Tamarac led to the arrest of a man for an array of crimes, including possession of a stolen firearm, credit card skimming devices, and over 100 credit cards.
On August 13, a deputy from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, on routine patrol activities around the intersection of West Commercial Boulevard and Rock Island Road, observed a vehicle run a red light. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and, as he approached, immediately detected a strong odor of burnt cannabis.
Records show the driver, later identified as Jahi Zamor, 21, of Miami Gardens, was asked to exit the vehicle for questioning. During a pat-down, officers discovered an empty black holster on Zamor’s front waistband.
When questioned about the presence of a firearm, Zamor denied having one in the vehicle. Deputies soon after searched for the car, which resulted in the discovery of cannabis and a Wesson M&P Shield 9mm firearm, confirmed to be stolen from Miramar.
As deputies placed Zamar in custody, a tan plastic bag containing an array of credit card skimming devices and stolen personal identification information where discovered in the vehicle’s trunk.
The haul included over 70 blank credit cards, 33 pre-paid credit cards, and various gift cards, all associated with different names, driver’s licenses, and multiple social security cards, all signs of a major identity theft operation.
Zamor was transported to BSO’s Tamarac District Office for further interrogation, where during questioning, he admitted to purchasing the stolen firearm through an Instagram contact.
As for the identity theft materials, Zamor claimed to have acquired the credit card skimming devices via online purchases from Amazon and alleged that he intended to “test” the devices and readers.
Detectives made contact with multiple victims whose names appeared on the credit cards. While some family members confirmed permitting Zamor to use their cards, many confirmed he did not.
One individual told deputies the identification cards discovered were stolen from his vehicle two years ago and that he wished to press charges against Zamar.
Zamar was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
